East Meets West

East meets west

I wanted to talk a bit about our practice. Specifically about how east meets west and why we offer a combination of chiropractic & yoga.  Chiropractic was founded in 1895 by Dr. D.D. Palmer in Davenport Iowa.  Chiropractic is an American phenomenon that has grown to be the largest drugless healing profession in the world! A recent article from Harvard University sites that up to 85% of people experience low back pain severe enough to see a doctor about!

All the while we have Yoga which derives from the ancient Hindu / Buddhist traditions of the East. Therefore, in a therapeutic sense, we can say “east meets west” here at Chestnut Hill Chiropractic & Rehabilitation.

As a Chiropractor, I use gentle adjustments to correct subluxations (misalignments) in the vertebrae and other joints like shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, ankles, jaw etc.  My wife Marysia is a certified Iyengar Yoga instructor.  Iyengar puts emphasis on alignment and improving the body’s functions in movement. This method of practice utilizes support from props

like blocks, ropes, chairs, and other items to support the body. A program of stretching and strengthening allows for a tailored sequence to meet a patient’s individual needs.

Chiropractic and yoga are very effective together at restoring alignment and improving posture.  There is a complementary relationship between the two disciplines.  As a chiropractor,  I can relate information about my patient’s alignment needs a therapeutic yoga instructor. (Specifically the areas in need of mobility and stability). The instructor can use this information to create a unique sequence of movements to help support the chiropractic adjustment.

We have found that this method has greatly improved our patients experience. Our unique program is an effective way to get more results out of treatment and help guide each person towards playing more of a role in their own spinal health!
