Chiropractic Service

Dr. Robert Gensler

For the past 42 years I have been fortunate enough to give the gift of health and well-being through the service of being a gentle, low-force chiropractor in the Boston area

I use my hands to apply a specific adjustment to re-align the misaligned vertebrae (subluxations) and other parts of the body back into place. Low force Chiropractic is particularly safe for senior citizens, infants, children and pregnant women.

The main concept in chiropractic is the Vertebral Subluxation.  Subluxations can be caused by physical stresses such as accidents, poor posture and repetitive motion. They can also be caused from an overload of mental, emotional, or chemical stress.  Subluxations interfere with the spinal nerves ability to transmit the correct nerve impulses throughout the body. Subluxations can result in pain, muscle spasms, a loss of spinal suppleness, lower immune responses, and poor health.  By correcting subluxations through chiropractic adjustments, the spinal nerves are able to transmit the correct nerve impulses throughout the body so the body can heal itself.  Each vertebra correlates to specific parts of our anatomy.  Chiropractic adjustments can alleviate many symptoms from headaches, to digestive issues, respiratory challenges, and localized pain accompanied with the spine being out of alignment.  This image shows how they all relate.

I owe special debt of gratitude to my mentor Dr. Richard Van Rumpt. I had the good fortune of studying under this pioneering chiropractor for the later part of his life. He honored me by having me write his memorial for the chiropractic journals before he passed away in 1987. You can read the memorial tribute to Dr. Van Rumpt that I wrote here

Integrative exercise is offered as a supplemental service to Chiropractic treatment.

Yoga and Individual Exercise

With Marysia Gensler

I have been studying yoga over 38 years.  Initially my attraction was to the spiritual practice of yoga.  The philosophy of yoga gave me answers that my religion did not.  Later on, I began to appreciate the physical effects of yoga through the practice of asana (body positions with breath awareness).  Eventually, I saw the benefits of combining those practices with my husbands chiropractic treatments as a way of helping people to achieve a more sustainable, healthy, and enjoyable life.

There are many yogic traditions. I chose to study Iyengar yoga.  Iyengar yoga was created by its originator, BKS Iyengar.  He is acknowledged for his innovative use of props (such as blocks, belts, ropes, blankets and bolsters) to help support the body in precise alignment and to establish balance and symmetry. I have chosen Iyengar yoga as my yoga path and am fortunate to be able to teach others this powerful healing discipline. This method of practice is especially helpful for those with stiffness or for those healing from injury.

When I began my initial yoga studies I observed the difficulty some students had due to their inability to move through the stiffness in their bodies. I was excited to learn of this therapeutic style of yoga. Iyengar yoga makes the practice of yoga accessible for all.  Research has clearly shown that yoga helps to lower stress and helps strengthen our immune system.

I offer individual private instruction in 30 minute sessions.  We review ergonomics and posture to help support spinal alignment, and work with yoga poses to strengthen and increase mobility. Private sessions are suited for people who need to begin slowly on their way to healing and recovery. I work directly with Dr. Gensler to create exercise plans to support spinal alignment and spinal health and to straighten areas of the body that need support.
